"I have always been a fan of Edgar Allan Poe's poetry, but I only found out recently that, not only did he write short stories, but he wrote so many, and they were so ingenious, that he became known as the father of the modern short story! I just read the Angel of the Odd (which really made me laugh) and the Cask of Amontillado, and I can't wait to read even more!"

"In the exploration of a great writer and an interesting person, I found it fun to look at parts of his work. I thank all who wrote this webpage for sharing more of Poe's story, parts of which I did not know before. Now I have much more info than I did before and am excited to share what I have discovered with others in my community. P.S. I can't pick a favorite work because there are too many to choose from and I couldn't just pick one. But one I am rather fond of is his poem "Dream-Land"."

Poe may have had some trouble with alcohol, but he was in no way "a somewhat spoiled baby". Its true he was adopted by Mr. Allan, a wealthy merchant, and was sent to boarding school in England. But how would you like to be sent to a school in another country at 6 years old, and not return home until you were 11? You didn't have your own room at boarding school. You shared quarters with other students and there was no hot water. It was like living in a military barracks.

"From the information and poems I have read, I have gotten to further my understanding of Edgar Allan Poe. He seemed like a man of many experiences. Along with experience comes stories. It is inspiring how he revolutionized horror and took that risk of being one of the first to do so. He seems almost mysterious, especially how he left so many possible questions after his death.
