In October 2005, I visited the Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia. I arrived early in the morning, the day before Halloween. Once the museum opened, I was greeted by a friendly staff. The guided tour was definitely worth the six dollars I paid.
While Poe did not actually live in this house, it is the oldest surviving house in Richmond and contains one of the largest collections of Poe artifacts in the world. There are many things to see, including paintings of Poe's relatives, a drawing by Poe, and the key to Poe's trunk that was found in the jacket he was wearing just before he died. Another room contains a huge scale model of Richmond as it appeared in Poe's day. I was pleased to see an exhibit of first editions of Poe's work, including an 1845 copy of The Raven and other Poems. Finally, I purchased some modern Poe memorabilia in the gift shop... a Poe t-shirt. =)
