"I think Poe was an amazing author and he went through a lot of trials in his life which helped create the seed for these poems and short stories that he wrote. I also think his drinking problem was probably inherited but it was also amplified by all the hardships he had in his life. Even just by reading one of his short stories, the Tell-Tale Heart I could tell that he was a really good author and it made me want to read more of his stories."

"My favorite Edgar Allan Poe story is The Tell-Tale Heart because it gives the reader a sense of fear. For example, when the man is hiding the body under the floor and the cops are there, it makes the readers fear for the man that the cops will find out. I also like this story because it shares a lesson that no matter how bad the thing is that you have done, even if you try to hide it, your guilt will take over and the situation will come to the light (be known)."

Poe read a LOT. I think he read everything he could get his hands on. But his ideas were also very original. People at the time were not writing horror stories. Poe invented the first detective character that solved crimes by investigation and deduction. He created entirely new genres of fiction.
