"I'm a little confused on the date of a couple of stories. Are the dates shown after the title the year found and/or published or is it the date that he wrote it? If its the date he wrote it then how can some of the stories such as "masque of the red death" be written in 1850 when he died in 1849?"

The date under each title is the date that version of the story was published. I say "version" because many of Poe's works were published more than once and Poe would sometimes change a few words each time. On this site, I try to use the latest published version of each story. Sometimes, this was the year after he died.
